Deep Casing Tools’ MechLOK™ Drill Pipe Swivel Achieves Full Qualification for Field Use by Equinor, Norway

Deep Casing Tools, a leading provider of simple, sustainable innovations across the well life cycle, is pleased to announce that the MechLOK™ Drill Pipe Swivel is now fully qualified for field use by Equinor, one of the world’s largest energy companies. The qualification follows six highly successful trial runs with the tool across two tri-lateral wells in the Norwegian North Sea, marking a significant milestone in the tool’s development.

The MechLOK™ Drill Pipe Swivel has been awarded the highest Technology Readiness Level Status, indicating its readiness for deployment on Equinor assets worldwide. This achievement is a testament to the tool’s exceptional performance and the confidence it instils in operators who seek a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solution.

Equinor’s well team provided the perfect opportunity for Deep Casing Tools to demonstrate the capabilities of the MechLOK™ Drill Pipe Swivel. The trials showcased the tool’s exceptional operational efficiency, ease of use, and ability to enhance drilling performance within challenging environments. Equinor’s decision to fully qualify the tool for field use across their global assets highlights their confidence in Deep Casing Tools technology and expertise.

Eoin Wood, Sales and Marketing Manager at Deep Casing Tools said, “We are delighted to have received full qualification for the MechLOK™ Drill Pipe Swivel by Equinor, one of the industry’s most respected operators. This achievement is a result of our unwavering commitment to providing clients with innovative and reliable solutions. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Equinor Wells Team for their support and collaboration throughout the trial period.”

The MechLOK™ Drill Pipe Swivel is a cutting-edge technology designed to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety during operations. Its unique features allow the choice of a variety of locking methods, enabling the tool to effectively cater to many well operation scenarios. Locking of the MechLOK™ and variations prevent swivelling by a simple, mechanical manipulation of the drill-string. Once locked, varying functionalities of the tool allow for rotation to the right or left, in tension, compression or both.

Deep Casing Tools is excited to continue its partnership with Equinor and looks forward to collaboration on future projects. The company remains committed to pushing boundaries of downhole technology, delivering value to clients, and driving industry innovation.
