We are pleased to share the news that we have won the Emerging Technology Award at this year’s Offshore Achievement Awards (OAA)!
Winners were announced at a virtual ceremony last night (Friday 14th August), which was hosted and organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section and supported by long standing principal sponsor, TAQA.
The ‘Emerging Technology’ category, which was sponsored by BP, recognises innovative new technology ideas developed in the UK which demonstrate huge potential to address the needs of the offshore energy sector.
We were awarded the accolade for our Casing Cement Breaker (CCB), a one of a kind, enabling technology that was created to deal with problematic cement behind casing, which hinders conventional methods for plugging and abandonment and slot recovery.
The tool is run downhole on drill pipe and uses pressure and rotation to manipulate the existing casing in the well, within its elastic limits, breaking down the bond between cement and casing, as well as the structure of the cement behind the casing. It has been proven to reduce the force needed to remove cement casing by around 50%, with future testing expected to achieve a 90% reduction.
The CCB has been internationally recognised by many operators and service companies including Equinor, who carried out the first field trial having been introduced to the technology by Archer UK, and Total E&P UK, who are helping to develop the tool.
