DCT team raise vital funds for the homeless

We were delighted to be able to support the local, independent charity, Aberdeen Cyrenians, this month by raising over £1,000 to help the homeless.

Aberdeen Cyrenians have been working tirelessly to tackle homelessness for over 50 years by offering a helping hand to anyone in crisis to get them back on their feet. They provide valuable support and assistance to individuals and families that are homeless or at risk of losing their home.

The fundraising activity, organised by Deep Casing Tools (DCT) employees at the end of last year, included a dinner and auction where staff and friends of DCT generously bid on items including mini breaks and gift vouchers for their loved ones.

Commenting on the donation, Lynda Reid-Fowler, Community Services Lead at Aberdeen Cyrenians, said:

“We are delighted that Deep Casing Tools is supporting our work allowing us to help people who are homeless begin to access the benefits they are entitled to, steer them towards work opportunities and support them with things like going to doctors’ appointments and collecting medications. An initial 15-minute meeting can be the start of a real change for many of our service users – having the opportunity to sit down with someone who will listen to their story, and identify ways that we can help is at the heart of what we do.”

Last year, the number of applications for homelessness status in Scotland increased for the second year in a row. The Scottish Government reported last year that 36,465 people asked for help from their local council in 2018-19, up 3% on the previous year. Worryingly, the Scottish Government also announced in January that the number of children living in temporary accommodation in Scotland was higher than at any time since records began.

Lewis Murray, Global Sales and Operations Manager at DCT, said:

“Housing shortages and the resulting homelessness are chronic issues across the country, and many people have been left vulnerable. We recognised that the cold winter months can be particularly difficult for the homeless and raising money for Aberdeen Cyrenians during the festive period was a cause our whole team really got behind.

“We are in a fortunate position and pleased that we are able to give something back to those in need in the local community. Thank you to everyone who attended our raffle and generously donated. We look forward to continuing our support of the charity and the incredible work they do.”
